5 Ways the iPod Touch Can Make Your Life Easier

I just recently got the iPod Touch because I wasn’t willing to switch from Verizon Wireless to AT&T for the iPhone. I realized that I didn’t need connectivity everywhere, but free WiFi would be my savior. Once I got it it dawned on me how great of a tool this really was. At first I thought I’d just use it to control my desktop or for mobile IM throughout the house and office, but after spending a little time with it I learned how I could use it to increase my blogging and social media effectiveness.

I’ve been using 5 iPod Touch Apps to make my life easier…

1. Twitterific (Paid)

This was the only app that I bought and at $9.99, the premium version is well worth it. Being able to follow my twitter stream where ever I go, is awesome. Not only that, but it looks great. The UI is easy and it keeps me from continually checking my Twitter stream while I type up blog posts. (Don’t forget to follow me on Twitter)

2. LinkedIn (Free)

You can’t really be a professional Internet Marketer without a LinkedIn profile. (You can see mine here, be sure to add me as a friend) The free iPod App for LinkedIn makes it easy to track your notifications, and also get information on your friends. Think of it as an easy way to access the LinkedIn directory.

3. Facebook (Free)

If you’re addicted to Facebook this app is great for you. Most of us love Facebook, it may be a huge time sink, but it’s just damn interesting to see what our friends are doing, who posted what pictures, and well writing on peoples’ walls are just fun. With the Facebook App you can do all that plus fulfill all your normal social media needs. Write messages, edit groups, and let people know what’s going on. The application makes it easy to do everything you need to on Facebook, on the go. (I have a profile here too! Don’t hesitate to friend me)

4. Wordpress (Free)

Other than the remote feature and just coolness of the iPod Touch, I got it because I wanted a way to write notes about blog posts that may come to me on the go. I was tired of writing them down on napkins, and index cards that I carried around. I first began using the Notes Application, but once I found the Wordpress App, my life became a lot easier. If you’re use a Wordpress blog, whether it be self-hosted or on the Wordpress servers, the application makes it easy to write posts and publish them. If you’re not willing to do that, you can do what I do, and just jot down notes and create quick outlines to save as drafts. Later, you can fill out the post and edit the formatting.

5. Google Reader (Free)

Sometimes it can be really hard to keep up with all the RSS feeds you’re subscribed to, especially if you’re like me and have more than about 100. Although this isn’t really an application, it is definitely worth note. If you use Safari and go to http://google.com/reader/i/ you can browse the iPhone and iPod Touch friendly version of Google Reader. I bookmarked this page and added it to my home screen so I can easily browse my feeds, and see what’s happening in the Internet Marketing world. (Have a feed you think I should subscribe to? I’m always looking for new ones, just leave a comment and let me know)

All in all I’m extremely happy with my iPod Touch. It’s a lot of fun to play with, very user friendly, and can be really helpful when I’m trying to get my work done. Know of any other gadgets that are as useful as it, or another application that I left out? Leave a comment and share it with the rest of us!

Just got an ipod touch for christmas, and ever since I’ve been on it at least 3 hours everyday. I personally like the interactive game apps because I’m a gamer. Definetly a better choice than the nano, but that just might be my preference.

I did get to see the new iPod Nano’s in Best Buy yesterday. They do look nice and at a good price point of $149 for the 8gb. I do think I want an iTouch however. Thanks for the insight.

Thanks for the comment Paul. The Touch is definetly worth it above the Nano. It plays all the music the Nano can, plus all the apps. Let us know what you do, and how you like it.

I just watched a few YouTube videos on Twinkle, it is pretty; but I really like Twitterific. It’s very clean, and it makes replying / searching / direct messaging on the iPod Touch really easy! Thanks for the comment Liz!
