The idea of having to go to college to succeed in life has be instilled in this generation’s every thought. It’s ridiculous and in fact hurts those of us that actually go to school to learn.
I’m not the smartest kid in the class, but I do care. I like learning, reading, and understanding new ideas. You could say that I’m addicted to my curiosity.
What I don’t understand is why there are college students that don’t care. Why are there students that don’t want to be in college but are forced to because of social norms. The ease of access to “higher” education is hurting this country’s education system.
No longer is a college degree difficult to obtain, so it’s not worth anything anymore. It’s really four years a waste of time. I’ve learned more about writing, the Internet, and critical thinking from my blog writing than I have from both my degrees in Political Science and Economics.
I agree that I’ve learned interesting things in class. But as the teaching gets watered down for the lowest denominator in class (someone who doesn’t even want to be there) I’ve lost out on a lot of education. As they come late to class, listening to their headphones, or disrupt class by sleeping. All I can say to them is, get out and stop wasting my time.
